Student Leadership

Student Leadership

Student leadership is something we value highly across the College, from DUCKS to Junior School to Senior School. Leadership means more than holding a title - it is about inspiring real, meaningful impact. Through a rich variety of formal and informal opportunities, students develop their voice, build leadership capability, and learn the planning, teamwork and responsibility so critical for success in the 21st century.

A Journey from Day One to Graduation

Leadership at Dulwich begins on a student's first day and continues well beyond graduation. Younger students take on age-appropriate roles such as Playground Pals and Student Council, exploring communication and teamwork, while older students refine their initiative and resilience through roles such as House Captains, Prefects and Student Ambassadors, engaging with their community and the wider world.

Prefects and Ambassadors

In Senior School, four Prefect portfolios — House, Wellbeing, Global Citizenship, and Student Voice — are each led by a Head Prefect, a position earned through an application essay, interviews with senior leaders, and a speech at the annual Hustings. Prefects have led projects including the Global Citizenship Journal and Wellbeing Workshops. Students in Junior and Senior School can also take on Ambassador roles in areas such as technology, art or House life, leading their own projects.

Sport, Music and CCAs

Students take on leadership roles within our competitive sports programmes and our music ensembles, while our co-curricular programme allows students to propose and lead their own activities — many Senior School CCAs are entirely student-led.

Shaping the College

Students have proposed and implemented ideas that are now part of the fabric of the College, from the Senior School MUN conference to changes in our uniform and wellbeing curriculum. At Dulwich, students come first, and that means giving them the confidence to shape the College's direction.

Student Leadership Conference

Each year, students from across the Dulwich College International network join together for the Student Leadership Conference, a four-day event focused on real-life leadership skills, continuing with workshops throughout the year.
